What happens to the text you paste
Nothing leaves your device. The checker is a single page of JavaScript that runs in your browser. When you paste a job posting, a recruiter message, or email headers and press the button, the analysis happens locally on your own machine. There is no server call, no database, and no logging of the content.
This is not a promise about intentions, it is how the tool is built. If you disconnect from the internet after the page loads, the checker still works exactly the same way. You are welcome to open your browser's developer tools and watch the network tab while you use it.
What I do not collect
- The content you paste, in whole or in part
- Your name, email address, or any contact information
- Accounts, logins, or profiles, because there are none
- Any record connecting you to a particular check
Cookies
This site sets no cookies. It uses no local storage, no session storage, and no tracking pixels. Because nothing is stored on your device and no personal data is processed for tracking, there is no consent banner to click.
Server logs
Like effectively every website, the hosting provider that serves these pages keeps standard access logs. Those typically record the IP address of the request, the time, the page requested, and the browser's user agent string. They are generated by the web server automatically and are used for security and to keep the site running. They contain no information about what you pasted.
Analytics
TODO: keep whichever paragraph matches what you actually install, and delete the other. If you add anything that sets cookies, such as Google Analytics or AdSense, this policy and the no-cookie claim above both have to change.
If using a privacy-preserving analytics tool: I use a cookie-free analytics service to count page views and see which sites link here. It does not set cookies, does not fingerprint your device, and does not build a profile of you across sites. It cannot see anything you paste into the checker.
If using nothing at all: This site runs no analytics of any kind.
Third parties
Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers to fetch them. That request includes your IP address, as any request to any server does. If you would rather avoid it, the fonts can be self-hosted, and the site still functions if the request is blocked.
Links to outside sites, including government reporting pages and my YouTube channel, are ordinary links. Once you follow one, that site's own privacy policy governs what happens there.
TODO: if you add affiliate links, a Ko-fi button, or any embedded widget, disclose it here and say plainly whether you earn a commission. Most affiliate programs require that disclosure, and it is the honest thing to do regardless.
Your rights
Data protection laws including the GDPR in Europe and the CCPA in California give you rights to access, correct, and delete personal data held about you, and to object to its processing.
In practice, exercising those rights here is unusually simple: I hold no personal data about you to access, correct, or delete. The only record of your visit is in the hosting provider's automatic server logs, which are retained for a limited period and are not linked to any identity. If you would like to make a request anyway, write to the address above and I will respond.
Children
This site is intended for adults navigating employment offers. It is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.
Accuracy and limitations
The checker matches text against known fraud patterns. It can be wrong in both directions: a legitimate but badly written posting may be flagged, and a sophisticated scam may not be. It is a prompt to slow down and verify independently, not a verdict and not professional, legal, or financial advice. You remain responsible for your own decisions.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Any change that affects what is collected will be described here rather than quietly edited in.
